Music at Sandgate

Here at Sandgate, music is an integral part of the school and this year has seen a great number of fantastic performances from the children. All children in KS2 have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and the enthusiasm for music making that can be seen around the school is truly inspiring.
This year we have already seen the Choir perform twice - once alongside the Folkestone Choral Society in the SAGA Pavilion and once at the Christmas Service. They did a brilliant job in both concerts.
At the Folkestone Proms 31st October 2009 the choir had the opportunity to perform alongside the Folkestone Choral Society and the Folkestone Symphony Orchestra at their Proms Concert. It was so much fun and our children were noted as setting a wonderful example for Sandgate Primary.
Year 3 have taken part in a singing morning at the Harvey Boys where they performed alongside many other local Primary Schools as well as performing a song all about the Romans which fitted in perfectly with their history topic for that term. Watch out because the Spiders have the X-Factor!
Year 4 Turtles have made us very proud twice this year with their Ocarina performances. Their class assembly was excellent and their enthusiasm for their instrument learning shone through. Like the Year 3 class, they also performed in an Ocarina afternoon with other local Primary Schools and set a fantastic example for Sandgate Primary.
In KS2, the children this year are learning the following instruments;
Year 3 are singing.
Year 4 are learning the Ocarinas.
The Alligators in Year 5 are learning the clarinets, the Giraffes are learning the recorder.
Year 6's will be doing some djembe drumming workshops once their final exams are completed.
In addition to this, each Year Group had to come up with their own Year Group song. Here are some photos of Year 1 performing their class song to the rest of the school.
Some selected children from Years 4 and 5 also took part in the Black Voices workshop. They came in for one of the two sessions and then at the end of the day the children then performed to the whole school.
As well as all this fantastic learning that takes place in our lesson time, some children are learning instruments outside class time, such as the violin, guitar, clarinet, saxophone, flute, cornet, trumpet and piano.
If your child is interested in learning a new instrument and would like to give it a go, please feel free to contact Miss Lock or the office and they will be able to give you contact details.
